“Best of Bridge” Cranberry Scone (Diane)

Ingredients:
¾ cup buttermilk
1 egg
2 ¾ cups flour
4 tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda (bread soda, sodium bicarbonate)
½ tsp salt
½ cup butter or margerine
½ cup sugar
1 cup coarsely chopped cranberries, fresh or frozen (but blueberries or raisins are good too!)
grated rind of 1 orange (optional)

Topping (optional):
1 tbsp melted butter
¼ cup icing sugar

Set oven to 375 F/ 190 C.
Mix the dry ingredients together.
Cut in butter until mixture resembles small peas.
Mix in cranberries and orange rind (or whatever).
Mix the buttermilk and egg together, and add.
Stir until a soft dough forms, then shape and place on baking sheet.
(Can use more flour on counter, cookie cutter etc., or just hands.)
Bake until a little bit brown, about 15 min.
If you like, brush with butter and sprinkle on a little icing sugar.
